The Children’s Activity Camps are weeklong, half and full-day camps for children ages 5 to 12. A variety of different sports and activities are offered to provide children with an opportunity to learn new skills in a safe and non-competitive environment.
The emphasis in the camps is to have fun, meet other children and become physically active.

Air quality
In an event of an air quality advisory, Children's Activity Camps (CAC) follows the Government of Canada's Recommendations to make informed decisions about camp adjustments.
Air quality rating 'Moderate' (4-6) or greater: Outdoor activity will be reduced and fewer high-exertion activities will be played with frequent and longer-lasting breaks and water breaks. Camp attendants with respiratory health conditions will be closely monitored.
Air quality rating 'High' (7-10) or 'Very High' (10+): All programming moved indoors. All participants will be kept inside with very limited outdoor exposure. When transporting camp participants to and from EDUC and PAC, the indoor tunnel system will be used.
Participants with asthma or other respiratory conditions are at a greater risk when these conditions are present. Therefore, we encourage open communication between parents and CAC staff in identifying and supporting your child's needs.
Heat Response Plan
Level 1: When humidex temperatures are forecasted to peak at 32 degrees or higher for two or more consecutive days at the USask Rec Outdoor Facilities:
- We will utilize shaded areas more frequently, reduce intensity of physical activities and ensure additional rest and water breaks.
Level 2: When humidex temperatures are forecasted to peak at 34 degrees at any point during the day at the USask Rec Outdoor Facilities:
- We will do our best to move programming into our indoor facilities.
In the case that we have limited facility options, we may be required to share indoor spaces. This means that some camps may not be able to participate in their sport-specific activities (ex. Golf, tennis, Frisbee, etc.).
Camps that have been moved indoors may continue to spend limited time outdoors and when this is the case, we will utilize shaded areas more frequently, reduce intensity of physical activity, and ensure additional rest and water breaks.
Rain Response Plan
When the forecast calls for rain we make program adjustments according to the severity of the weather. Below is summary of what to expect for three scenarios:
Light or Moderate Rain: in the event of light or moderate rain all outdoor camps will take place outside – rain or shine – as planned. Campers are expected to come prepared and dressed in weather appropriate clothing.
Heavy Rain: in the event of heavy rain, some camps will seek shelter indoor spaces, while others might operate as planned. Expect program adjustments and alternative activities. This could include fitness activities, scavenger hunts, games, and more.
Thunder or Lightning: in the event of thunder or lightning, all outdoor camps will move indoors. Capacity is a limiting factor, so programming will be adjusted accordingly (i.e., sitting circle games and art).
Whenever an adjustment, change, or cancellation is in affect for your child’s specific camp you will receive an email notification from us with further detail.
Note: only camps impacted will be notified (i.e., camps that take place indoors, such as swimming camps, should not expect to be notified or any changes to camp programming).

Participants will explore a variety of sports with the intention of developing a wide range of movement/sport skills. This will allow participants to experience success in whatever sport/activity they may eventually pursue. This is a fantastic opportunity to explore your interest in a number of sports in a variety of settings. Research and evidence have demonstrated that a multi-sport experience by youth better prepares them for sports of their choice later in their sport life. PAAL Camp
Physical Activity for Active Living (PAAL)
The PAAL Camp is a designed for children and youth between the ages of five and 18 who are visually and/or hearing impaired, physically and/or developmentally delayed. The camp provides many opportunities to be physically active, socialize with others, work on skill development and have lots of fun in the sun. Volunteers will assist the participants through the various activities during the week, which include soccer, golf, tennis, track and field, swimming, nature hikes and grass games.
- Participants will be active in two-three activities per day, the pool and structured activities in the gym/playroom, tennis courts and fields, as a result it is the expectation that participants will stay with their group in the activity area and partake in the activities provided.
- We kindly ask that if the participant wears incontinence protection (pull ups) that participants will be able to change in and out of protection with minimal assistance. Due to safety concerns, USask Rec volunteers and staff will NO longer be responsible for completing this personal hygiene task for PAAL participants.
- Participants must be able to change from street clothes to swim suites and back to street clothes with minimal assistance (ie. the participant can step/place their feet into their pant legs and volunteers help to pull them up, the participant can work with the volunteer in helping to get their shirt over their head, arms, and torso).
- Participants must be willing to follow the directions of the coordinator/ instructors/volunteers.
- Participants will be under direct supervision of 1 to 2 volunteers. Volunteers will responsibly care for participants, tailor activities to their needs and build supportive and encouraging relationships. Instructors are present and trained to a National Lifeguard standard in order to ensure ultimate safety, improvement and fun in a pool and gym setting. Through the PAAL program participants are able to work on improving social, physical and play skills while also gaining independence.
