Our Mission

The University of Saskatchewan’s College of Kinesiology is committed to being a leader in physical activity, sport and recreation programming, providing only the highest quality service and instruction to all participants through our USask Rec department.

Our commitment to excellence is coupled with a desire to become increasingly accessible to all who wish to improve their physical health and wellbeing. We aim to instill a lifelong desire for continued learning, exploration and participation in physical activity.

Facilities
USask has extensive recreation facilities, including two salt water pools (Physical Activity Complex and Education), Fit Centre, climbing wall, squash courts, indoor walk/jog track, football and soccer fields, tennis courts and more.

Activity Opportunities (including Community Programming)
We offer many activities for USask students and staff as well as high quality programming for children and youth on the beautiful USask campus, from climbing and swimming to mountain biking and soccer.

Skilled Staff
Our highly skilled staff, personal trainers and coaches will ensure that however you and your family choose to be active with USask Rec, your experience will be one of quality and excellence with an emphasis on enjoyment.

Job Opportunities

Tumbleweed Student Instructors

Job Description:

As a successful Tumbleweeds instructor, you and one other instructor will lead preschool level gymnastics classes with class sizes of up to 12 children. You will be required to set up and take down circuits on all events, which includes lifting some heavy matting and adjusting bar heights. A successful instructor has excellent interpersonal and communication skills that can be applied to a wide variety of situations.  They must also possess strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills with the ability to react to situations in a quick but professional manner. Strong leadership, creativity, and a positive attitude are all required to be a successful Tumbleweeds instructor.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Leading a class through lessons, games, skills, and other activities.
  • Setting up and taking down circuits on floor, beam, and bars.
  • Spotting participants when necessary.
  • Maintaining a fun and safe environment for all participants, parents, and staff.
  • Attend to any minor injuries and if injury is severe enough initiate emergency action protocol as provided by the Coordinator.
  • Playing games, teaching skills, and leading activities with children ages 1.5-5 years old.

Qualifications:

  • Must be a University of Saskatchewan student
  • Must have previous experience working with children or have experience with gymnastics.
  • Must be able to lift 50lbs or more.
  • CPR/First aid certification is a definite asset, but not required.
  • Successful candidates will be required to complete and provide a criminal records check including vulnerable sector screening prior to start of employment.
  • Excellent problem solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team setting.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced and dynamic work environment is expected
  • Successful candidates should have excellent interpersonal skills, especially with children.
  • Conflict resolution skills and the ability to deal with change decisively, effectively, and spontaneously is considered an asset.
  • A gymnastics foundations (GF) certification or higher is a definite asset, but not required.
